Nicky Noodles shares her expert advice and top secrets on planning that perfect kid’s party whilst at home in isolation.
We are still currently closed for hosting kids parties due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but just because we can’t plan your party doesn’t mean you’re child shouldn’t have a super fun day (even if it is at home with the parents).
We still want to share the joy and create smiles so we’ve put together this blog post to help you make the most of a stay home birthday party.
I’ve tried to make everything flexible to work with varying ages and budgets so some bits may be vague but it’s all valuable.
I’m giving away some big secrets here so remember to say thanks by booking a party with us next year! 😉
Stress-free is key!

It may seem like a marketing ploy but no we really mean it when we work our hardest to make the parents as stress-free as possible at parties. Why? Because kids feed off your emotions. If you’re feeling stressed, angry or upset then they will feel it too. It’s hard but remember it’s only one day and even if the house is a mess, that can wait until tomorrow.
Be in the moment not on your phone!

Today is about them, so give them that focus and attention they crave most. Try putting your phone on airplane mode, so you can still take pictures but without the distraction and remember uploading pics can always wait until tomorrow.
Play

It doesn’t matter the activity if you’re giving them your full attention they will love it!
Yes, it’s a shame they can’t have 30 friends round but 1 adult acting like a 5year old, getting just as excited as they are about playing games and sweeties, can make up for it (trust me it’s what I do for a living). The kids love it and find it hilarious, so let your hair down and just have fun.
Get creative

Try to use what you have at home rather than buying new, Google and Pinterest are your best friends when your not sure how to decorate. Want banners? Get the birthday child to help make it in the run-up, remember it doesn’t have to be perfect to be magical. A little glitter goes a long way!
Plan & prepare

Take the pressure off by getting ready in advance. Again you don’t want to feel stressed and overwhelmed on the day so my best advice is to plan the activities out. Make lists; todos, to buys & to makes. Give yourself at least a week to get everything together and if you do choose to order bits online, 2-3weeks or more may be needed.
So now I’ve got the grown-ups trained, let get on with the party planning!
When planning a party, start off by asking the kids what they would like to do.
Here’s my list of suggestions give but leave the final choices to be theirs.
- Teddy bears picnic
- Imaginary tea party
- Pool party (a paddling pool if you have one)
- Water fight
- Make giant bubbles
- Hide and seek
- Video chat their bestie
- Baking
- Movie night
- Take away night
- Spa day
- Storytelling adventure
- Build a fort
- Crafts & drawing
- Play dress up (even makeovers if you’re brave enough)
- Silly Dancing
- Sing, nursery rhymes or karaoke
- Make a band (out of pots and pans)
- Retro computer games day
- Go camping in the garden
- Silly kitchen science
Most of all have fun!
Try not to overthink it parents, give them your love and attention and in their eyes, it will be the best birthday yet.
